Fishing
Clear Lake is home to very diverse populations of fish. Species of fish in Clear Lake include channel catfish, white catfish,  largemouth bass, carp, crappie, and the popular rainbow trout. Numerous smaller species of fish can also be commonly found. While many anglers have a variety of the fish that they catch, the channel catfish and rainbow trout are considered the ideal catch of many. The channel catfish is most common in the deepest sections of the lake during the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. Bottom rigs with a variety of bait tend to be the best tackle for this species. Rainbow trout are a popular game fish that are best caught during the early Spring and late Fall. This is because the rainbow trout prefer the cold water of Clear Lake during these time periods. Fishermen should test their luck near the numerous streams that feed into the lake for best results. Fly fishermen tend to have the best luck at catching rainbow trout, so it is wise to use a fly rod if the goal is to catch a rainbow trout. Clear Lake is also well known for its large populations of largemouth bass. Using light tackle and jigs during mid-Spring to early Fall, fishermen can catch plenty of bass in the vegetation of shallow portions of the lake. Other species of fish can be caught throughout the entire year. Fly fishing, light tackle, and bottom rigs have all been successful for fishing in Clear Lake, so it is to one's benefit to experiment with different set-ups.
