Some of Falls Lake's primary game fish species include largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, crappie, and sunfish. Largemouth bass is a species that can be found throughout the waters of Falls Lake. The best locations to target these largemouth bass are areas around weed beds, timber, and pilings. These are all great locations for find Falls Lake during the mornings and evenings. During cold and hot weather conditions, fishermen should resort to fishing in deeper waters in order to catch largemouth bass. June and July are the prime months for largemouth bass fishing at Falls Lake. Diving crankbaits, tube jigs, spinnerbaits, and topwater lures are the best tackle options when targeting largemouth bass. Soft plastics and various artificial baits can also be effective. The striped bass is also a common target that will provide an exciting challenge. This species can be caught in the deep waters of Falls Lake using a variety of fishing methods. Among the several methods that can be used, most fishermen will agree that the use of bottom rigs and trolling rigs are among the best options. Trolling is most successful at a speed of 2 to 4 miles per hour. Imitation shad, soft plastics, and spinnerbaits are very effective for catching striped bass. This species can be found in deep waters throughout Falls Lake, but the fishing hole near Falls Dam is among the best locations for targeting catfish. Stink baits, cut baits, anchovies, and chicken livers are all excellent bait choices for catfish anglers. Crappie is also an abundant species in Falls Lake. This fish can be targeted in areas near the shoreline. Popular habits for crappie include large boulders, weed beds, and areas around pilings. Crappie can be effectively caught using bobbers, jigs, and topwater lures. For those that prefer it, fly rods can also be used to successfully catch crappie.
