Fishing
Fishermen who visit Fayette County Reservoir soon realize that there are numerous opportunities for fishermen of multiple styles and skill levels. This is due to the presence of both small game fish and large trophy targets. Some of the primary game fish species of Fayette County Reservoir include largemouth bass, striped bass, channel catfish, redear sunfish, blue catfish, bluegill, and flathead catfish.

The largemouth bass populations of Fayette County Reservoir are dense and allow for some of the best bass fishing experiences in Texas. Fishermen targeting largemouth bass should find areas with weed beds, debris, and other hiding places. The area between the shore and the pier in the southwestern portion of the lake is an excellent place to target. Once in this location, anglers should cast their lines just beyond drop offs and in gaps in the weed beds. Fayette's largemouth bass population respond very well to a variety of spinnerbaits, so these should be used before other tackle options are implemented.Other successful options include jigs, buzzbaits, deep diving crankbaits, and imitation shad.

Striped bass is a species of bass that will provide a more difficult challenge. This species is renowned for putting up a strong fight through methods of thrashing and flailing. In order to catch this species, fishermen should travel to the deep waters of the lake. Recently, fishermen have successfully caught this species in the area where water is released from the power plant. Fishermen who decide to target this area should avoid getting too close to the power plant, as the water intake is dangerous. When fishing for striped bass, bottom rigs or trolling methods can be used. Fishermen should troll at speeds of 2 to 5 miles per hours using shiny lures, spoons, spinners, and bluefish rigs. Once hooked, fishermen should be ready to fight the fish to exhaustion before reeling it in. This species provides a formidable challenge to anglers of all skill levels.

The various catfish populations can be found in this area as well as the several fishing holes near the dam. Bottom rigs should be used for optimal results. Ideal baits include chicken livers, anchovies, and a variety of cut baits.
