Although most of the shoreline is well developed with residential and commercial buildings, Gull Lake is a beautiful body of water with stunning natural scenery.  Gull Lake is a natural body of water that is located in the Cass and Crow Wing counties of Minnesota.  Its primary inflow of water is the Gull River.  This large lake is home to a large variety of game fish that offer excellent fishing opportunities to many anglers.

With a large surface area and many protected habitats, the community of game fish in Gull Lake are able to thrive quite well.  The predominant targets within the lake include crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, northern pike, rock bass, yellow perch and walleye.

The pike of Gull Lake can be found throughout the lake. Wilson Bay, Crane Island, and Grassy Point are all excellent locations for catching this popular target. 

Walleye are very abundant in Gull Lake; this makes the lake arguably one of the best locations for targeting the species.  While they are most abundant in high concentrations during the spring spawn, walleye can be found throughout most of the year in various portions of Gull Lake.  Ideal locations for targeting walleye include the northwest portion of Cinosam Flat, Tower Bar, and Squaw Point.  Various crankbaits and jigs are useful for catching this species. 

Largemouth bass are also a frequently targeted species of Gull Lake.  The best strategy for targeting this species is by utilizing the habitats provided by the weed beds in several parts of the lake.  Some of the best locations for targeting largemouth bass include Wilson Bay, the shoreline of Crane Island, Grassy Point, Cinosam Flat, and Rock Pile. 

The panfish of Gull Lake such as crappie, yellow perch and bluegill can be found in shallow areas that are sheltered from the main lake.  This includes habitats such as weed beds, fallen timber, and in creeks and coves.  The waters near Crane Island, WIlson Bay, Squaw Point, and Grassy Point are all prime spots for catching crappie and bluegill.  Various light tackles are recommended.

Facilities

Due to the commercial and recreational buildup around the lake, facilities and accommodations are readily available.  These include tackle shops, grocery stores, fueling stations, lodging, boat rentals, fishing guides, private marinas, paved boat landings, lodging, paved boat landings, and public access points.

The Lake

Gull Lake is large with a total surface area of 9,947 acres.  It has a maximum length of 15 miles and a width of 2 miles.  The average depth of Gull Lake is 30 feet.  At its deepest point, it is 80 feet.  The shoreline measures out to roughly 38 miles.  Gull Lake is located at an elevation of 1,253 feet.  Water clarity fluctuates between 8 to 13 feet depending on rainfall and silt.
