Fishing
This is lake that is extremely popular around the entire world. This lake sustains the populations of many small game fish that are targeted by both recreational and professional anglers. While this lake is not ideal for the larger species of fish such as striper, there are other trophy fighters that are commonly captured. Fish species in Lake Kissimmee include largemouth bass, bluegil, crappie, shellcracker, and several other small species of fish. These small species of fish thrive best in Lake Kissimmee largely due to the fact that most of the water is covered by hydrilla that makes navigation difficult for the larger species. Largemouth bass is among the most popular of catches by fishermen at Lake Kissimmee. This species of fish can be found as early as the late Winter and as late as early Winter. Lake Kissimmee is the location of many largemouth bass records, and it is likely that large bass captures will be frequent. This is due to the fact that the majority of the lake is covered in vegetation. Because of this, many largemouth bass are not accessed by fishermen and they are allowed to grow to full size. Largemouth bass tend to hide underneath the hydrilla, so casting a jig or a spinner near a patch of vegetation is the best strategy to use for bass fishing. In order to find the best fishing holes, it becomes necessary for fishermen to use a fan boat or a kayak in order to cross the dense vegetation. The largemouth bass populations are quite high in these locations, so the reward is well worth the work. Large populations of smaller fish can be found in these fishing holes as well. For families and casual fishermen, bluegil and crappie can be found near the shore and offer a fun challenge when using a line with a low test. These fish can be best caught when using a light colored jig or crankbait. Lake Kissimmee provides excellent opportunities for small game fishing.
