Fishing

A popular fishing lake, Dardanelle is home to largemouth, striped bass, hybrids, white bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish

Largemouth grow big and can be found in abundance towards the upper end of the lake.  Use your electronics to locate the many points, drops and humps that hold good fish.  Illinois Bayou, Horsehead to Caney Creek, Shoal Bay and Piney Bay are all productive areas.

Twenty-pound-plus stripers are always possible, and 2- to 6-pound bass are common. Look for stripers in the lower reaches of Dardanelle around the main river channel and the mouths of major creeks and streams. While the Arkansas River impoundments produce numerous striped bass, some anglers aren’t aware that hybrids are available in some pools as well. Hybrids up to 10 pounds have been caught below Ozark Dam, primarily in the fall and again in the spring spawning run. Hybrids are also present in the pool below Dardanelle.

Look for Crappie near the numerous brush piles and rocks in Lake Dardanelle.  Search the backwaters for schooling shad and the Crappie will be nearby.  Bluegill can be found in similar locations.

Dardanelle has some large catfish.  Look for deeper pools, Fish the dams and areas where water flows for the best chance at a big cat.

Facilities

Public boat docks offer boat and motor rental services, fuel, food, and other supplies and services. Some 250 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campsites are available around the lake, plus Lake Dardanelle State Park welcomes visitors at two shoreline locations.
