Located in a beautiful area of southeast Oklahoma, Lake Eufaula is a body of water commonly frequented by fishermen of all skill levels.  Lake Eufaula is a reservoir that occupies parts of Oklahoma’s McIntosh, Pittsburg, Haskell, and Okmulgee counties.  The lake is primarily fed by water from the North and South Canadian Rivers with water exiting to the Canadian River.  This large lake is ideal for anglers targeting a variety of species.

Fishing

The primary targets of Lake Eufaula include crappie, catfish, white bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and walleye.  Crappie can be caught from the piers and shorelines of the lake.  Fishermen should be sure to target areas with a sandy bottom near shallow weed beds.  Hickory Point and Crowder Point are both ideal locations for crappie fishing.  This species can be caught using a light rod and a line with a test of 5-pounds.  Ideal baits include artificial worms, minnows, nightcrawlers, and jigs.  Most varieties of light freshwater tackle are effective for catching crappie.  The white bass is a much more challenging species that can be found throughout the majority of the lake.  The best method of catching white bass requires a boat and some basic sonar equipment.  With these tools, fishermen should follow schools of shad and other bait fish during the feeding times.  Once in the proper location, crankbaits and spoons can be used to successfully catch white bass.  A medium-weight rod with a line of at least 10-pound test should be used.  The largemouth bass of Eufaula can be captured in the near drop offs and weed beds during the morning and evening feeding times.  Gentry Creek Cove and Porum Landing are good locations for largemouth bass fishing at Lake Eufaula.  The largemouth bass should be targeted using medium weight rods a line with a test of at least 12-pounds.  Ideal tackle includes crank baits, buzz baits, and jigs.  The smallmouth bass of Eufaula can be caught near shallow weed beds and submerged timber.  Eufaula smallmouth bass are frequently targeted in Holiday Cove and Cardinal Point.  Light tackle and baits such as spinners and jigs are effective options.  A light rod with a line of a 10-pound test recommended.  During the spring, large populations of walleye can be found near the shore in spawning areas.  Fishermen should target these spawning areas with crankbaits during the morning and evening.  Anglers can target larger walleye in the depths of Lake Eufaula by trolling at speeds of 3 to 5 miles per hour with crankbaits, spinners and spoons.

Lake Eufaula is massive.  It has a total surface area of 102,000 acres.  The average depth is 23 feet.  At its deepest point, Lake Eufaula is 87 feet.  Eufaula’s shoreline roughly measures out to 600 miles.
