Fishing

Lake Ray Hubbard is well known for its healthy populations of popular game fish.  The most predominant targets of Lake Ray Hubbard include white (sand) bass, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, blue catfish, bluegill and crappie.

The hybrid and white (sand) bass of Ray Hubbard have become one of the most abundant species in the lake.  Ideal areas to target this species are along the lake points and in deep waters.  The waters near the west side interstate 30 and the southwest region of the lake are excellent for hybrid and white bass fishing.

Largemouth bass have fair population sizes throughout the lake and can be targeted in locations with coverage or drop offs. The cove near Lakeview Parkway and the waters above interstate 30 are both good places for largemouth bass fishing.  The northernmost portion of Lake Ray Hubbard, with its numerous stump fields is also good for largemouth bass fishing.

Both channel and blue catfish can be caught in deep regions of the lake through the use of bottom rigs and many kinds of baits.  Good areas include the deep regions of water in the central and southwestern area of Lake Ray Hubbard.

Among panfish, crappie are the most abundant.  This species can be targeted near hydrilla beds, timber, and other areas protected from the open waters.  Good locations for crappie fishing include the area to north of interstate 30, the southeast sprawls, and the northernmost portion of Lake Ray Hubbard.  Fly gear or light tackle is ideal.
