As a large lake between the United States and Canada, Lake St. Clair is home to many different species of game fish. For the owners of small vessels, motor boats, canoes, or kayaks, there are numerous boat landings and piers that are scattered along the shore of Lake St. Clair. These allow for easy entry and exit to and from the water at several locations. Some of these piers are for fishing only, so it is important to do research beforehand. These fishing-only piers often have tackle and bait shops, so there is never a shortage of supplies for fishermen who may have forgotten something. Running water and bathrooms are also available.
The Lake
St. Clair is a cold, fresh water lake. At its maximum natural depth, it is 23 feet. This is where most anglers who prefer to use bottom rigs do most of their fishing. Lake St. Clair is deeper in one location known as the navigation channel. This artificial channel is 27 feet in depth and is for the traffic of freight ships only. It is wise for fishermen to avoid this area. In total, Lake St. Clair is 430 square miles in area.
