Fishing

As one of the largest reservoirs in the entire United States, Lake Texoma is able to support an abundant community of healthy game fish.  The most predominant species of Lake Texoma include blue catfish, channel catfish, white bass, striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. 

With large populations of almost all of the different varieties, Lake Texoma is an excellent place for bass fishing.  Largemouth bass have strong populations and can be targeted throughout the entirety of the lake during most of the day.  During the morning and evening hours, anglers should focus on shallower waters to increase the chance of hooking a largemouth bass.  Good places to target include creeks and bluffs along the shoreline.  The waters near Willow Springs and Eisenhower State Park are both excellent for largemouth bass fishing. 

WIth the largest populations among Texoma, spotted bass and smallmouth bass can be targeted in shallow regions of the lake near drop offs, stump beds, and rocky structures.  Specific locations for targeting smallmouth and spotted bass include creeks, the shoreline near Willow Springs, and the shorelines next to the Red and Washita Rivers. 

Striped bass & white bass can be targeted by trolling the open waters and the area near the Denison Dam.

Both blue and channel catfish can be targeted on the bottom of Lake Texoma in various locations.  The mouths of creeks and the region of deep water near the Denison Dam are both ideal locations for targeting catfish.  The use of bottom rigs is recommended. 

Both the black and white varieties of crappie can be targeted in shallow, protected regions of Lake Texoma.  Anglers should target shoreline bluffs, boulders, water willow and stump beds, and other similar areas.  Shallow waters across the entire lake are usually ideal, but Willow Springs and Eisenhower State Park are popular areas for targeting crappie and other panfish.

The facilities and accommodations of this large body of water include private marinas, public piers, paved boat landings, fueling stations, tackle shops, fishing guides, boat rentals, campgrounds, lodging, picnic areas, cleaning stations, restrooms, public access points, and nearby restaurants and grocery stores.

The Lake

Lake Texoma is a large freshwater reservoir with a total surface area of 74,686 acres.  It has a maximum depth of 100 feet.  The elevation of Texoma’s conservation pool is 615 to 619 feet, but this fluctuates between 5 and 8 feet annually.  Normal clarity is moderately stained to clear.  Vegetation is not abundant across the entire lake, but there is water willow, American lotus, floating heart, and bushy pondweed in certain areas.  Texoma has rocky structures, standing timber, stump beds, bluffs, and sand flats spread throughout its waters.
