Fishing

Enid Lake holds many different species of freshwater fish, but the most predominant targets include largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, sunfish, catfish, bluegill, and gar.  The world record white crappie (5.3 lbs) and the world record shortnose gar (5.83 lbs) were caught on Enid Lake.

The largemouth bass is a popular target across the entire United States, so it is only natural that Enid anglers consider it to be one of their favorites.  The largemouth bass can be targeted near shallow weed beds and drop offs during the morning and evening feeding times.  During the summer, the Mississippi sun heats these shallow locations, so it is necessary to target the lake’s deep waters beyond the drop offs.  Fish gather at main lake points, try casting crankbaits or Carolina rigs to any structure.  Productive areas for bass include the Riverview and Cossar areas, the north bank near Chickasaw and the numerous fingers or coves near Point Pleasant recreation area.

The crappie of Enid Lake are considered the most abundant species and they grow big!!  Crappie can be found off deep-drops near weed edges during the day.  Point Pleasant is an ideal location to target crappie.  Also try the coves near Cossar State Park and Wallace Creek.

Enid Lake holds many species of catfish that can be targeted near the bottom of deep areas by using bottom rigs.  Such locations include the waters near the Enid Dam and the various fishing holes that can be found by using a depth finder.

Sunfish can be found in weedy areas along the shorelines and in coves.  Bynum Creek is a good location for targeting sunfish.
