During the late Fall, Winter, and early Spring, the bass can be found in deep water. As the weather gets warmer during the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall, the largemouth bass can be found in the shallower portions of the lake near aquatic plants. The best month for catching this species is during June. Most fishermen successfully catch largemouth bass by using light tackle, jigs, and spinners. Channel catfish are a species that is popular in most freshwater bodies of water; it is definitely a local favorite at Grand Lake of the Cherokees. This species can be caught between mid-Spring to December frequently. In order to catch channel catfish, fishermen should find a deep section of the lake to target. It is ideal to use bottom rigs with stink bait, minnows, or many other kinds of bait; catfish will eat many different types of bait. The hybrid striper is a species that many come to the Grand Lake to fish for. This species is a hybrid of a striper and a bass and is a strong fighter. This species and often caught by trolling. There are many other species that are more suitable for children or casual fishermen.

Grand Lake of the Cherokees has many facilities that make trips easy to plan. These facilities include marinas, piers, paved boat landings, fueling stations, tackle shops, grocery stores, and sleeping accommodations. All of the basic necessities for a successful trip are available for purchase.
The Lake
The Grand Lake of the Cherokees is a large lake that sustains its fish populations. It has an area of 46,500 acres and a maximum depth of 160 feet. This is one of the reasons that the Grand Lake is able to sustain dense fish populations. Fishermen will also find the spacious lake convenient for their privacy.
