The primary game species of Kezar Lake include salmon, brook trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch, bullhead, smelt, pumpkinseed sunfish, and chain pickerel.Among these, salmon, lake trout, smallmouth bass, white perch, smelt, and chain pickerel are the most abundant.

The warm water favorite of Kezar Lake is the smallmouth bass. This species can weight up to 3 pounds and can provide a light challenge. Fishermen who decide to target this species should choose a light tackle setup with topwater lures. Nightcrawlers or artificial worms are the ideal bait choice. The key location for smallmouth bass is the shoreline and shallow waters in front of Bryant Hill.

Trout fishermen who decide to visit Kezar Lake will find that there is the abundance of lake trout is well above average. Fly rods and medium weight rods equipped with light tackle are the best options for catching lake trout. One of the best locations for trout fishing is at the location where Mill Brook feeds into Kezar Lake. This area has the cold, moving water that most species of trout prefer.

Many fishermen will decide to target the populations of salmon that many northern lakes are known for. The best location for salmon is the deep areas of the southernmost portion of Kezar Lake. Although there are other ways to catch salmon, the best method is trolling. Fishermen should acquire a boat and troll at speeds of 2 to 5 miles per hour. Large spoons are the best tackle options. Ideal baits for salmon include frozen herring and anchovies.

Panfish such as pumpkinseed sunfish are an ideal target for casual fishermen and families. These fish are often an easy catch, but can put up a feisty fight if using a line with a very low test.
