Fishing
As one of the largest and healthiest lakes in Michigan, the fish population is very high. Fishermen can enjoy a huge diversity of fish ranging from large game fish to the smaller panfish. Because of this large diversity, many fishermen from across the entire nation are drawn to Lake Charlevoix so that may get a taste of the action. Some major species of fish in Lake Charlevoix include black crappie, bluegil, brown trout, channel catfish, lake trout, northern pike, musky, sunfish, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and walleye. Among sport fishermen, the large game species are the most popular. Northern pike and musky are species that offers a fun challenge to anglers. This species can be found in the deep waters of Lake Charlevoix throughout the entire year. In order to catch this fish, anglers should acquire a boat and use a trolling rig. Trolling at 4 to 6 miles per hour is the ideal speed. Many fishermen also enjoy testing their luck for rainbow trout. This species can be a great fighter when caught on a line with a low test. Anglers should fish near the area where the Jordan River feeds into Lake Charlevoix for best results. A fly rod or light tackle set-up should be used for best results. Probably the most popular fish in cold water lakes, the walleye is a species that fishermen often target. This species is a strong fish that can reach large sizes and easily break a line. They provide excellent challenges to even seasoned anglers. This fish can be found in Lake Charlevoix beginning in the mid-Spring and continuing through late-Fall. In the Spring, the walleye reside in the shallow sand beds to spawn. This is the perfect window of opportunity for walleye fishermen because it is easy to hook a walleye in these conditions. Fishermen should equip brightly colored jigs or crankbaits. During the Spring and Fall, fishermen must go to deeper waters in order to find walleye. Trolling at 3-5 miles per hour is the best method in during these seasons. Smaller species can also be found that are great for families and casual fishermen.

Lake Charlevoix has all of the usual facilities. There are marinas, fueling stations, piers, paved boat landings, tackle shops, and sleeping accommodations available to fishermen and visitors. This ensures that trips to Lake Charlevoix are convenient and enjoyable. 
The Lake
As Michigan's third largest lake, Lake CharleVoix is massive. This lake covers 27 square miles. It is 13 miles long and 3 miles wide. At its deepest point, Lake Charlevoix is 122 feet. Its average depth is 50 feet. Due to this large size, Charlevoix is able to support a very large community of fish while maintaining healthy habitats.
