Fishing
The anglers of Lake Wallenpaupack regularly challenge themselves by targeting the reservoir's populations of game fish. Some of these fish are large trophies while others are feisty panfish. Some of the main game fish of Lake Wallenpaupack include largemouth bass, bluegill, smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie, northern pike, striped bass, pickerel, rainbow trout, brown trout, catfish, crappie and yellow perch.

Largemouth bass can be found in high abundance throughout many parts of Lake Wallenpaupack. Fishermen targeting this species should target the northern and southwestern points of the lake. These areas sprawl into areas of dense vegetation that provide the perfect habitat for largemouth bass populations. Throughout these areas, fishermen should cast lines in areas near large rocks, drop offs, weed beds, submerged timber, and under overhanging tree limbs. Imitation shad, jigs, topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all excellent tackle choices.  Look for feeding fish near the grass beds in the southern coves of Lake Wallenpaupack.

Smallmouth bass can also be caught in Lake Wallenpaupack using similar methods. This species is most frequently caught in the northern portion of the lake in coves and near debris. Topwater lures, jigs, bobbers, and fly rods are often used to successfully capture smallmouth bass. Like Shuman Point, Spinnler Point is another good point for both largemouth and smallmouth bass.

The walleye in Lake Wallenpaupack offer a unique challenge to the reservoir's fishermen. This species can put up a strong fight; catching one is an exhilarating experience. Fishermen who decide to target this species should travel to deep waters of the lake. From here, anglers should use deep diving crankbaits or jigs.  Use your electronics to locate structure and droop-offs which will hold fish.  The northern shoreline is a great place to start.

For fishermen who prefer to target a larger game fish that presents a more difficult challenge, Lake Wallenpaupack offers a population of northern pike. This species can be a strong fighter to fishermen of all levels. Trolling is the best method to catch this species. Anglers in search of northern pike should target the deep waters throughout the entire lake while trolling at a speed of 2 to 4 miles per hour. Large spoons and spinners are best tackle choices. Herring, shad, and anchovies are all ideal bait options.

Muskie can also be caught through trolling the deep waters of the reservoir. Trolling should be done at a speed of 2 to 5 miles per hour using large spoons, crank baits and other musky tackle.  Productive areas for musky include Spinner Point, Boulder Point, Epply Island and the channel between Kipp Island.

Fly fishermen will enjoy the challenges presented by the large variety of trout in the lake. These species can be caught near streams, creeks, and the numerous other inlets of the reservoir. Since the water flow from the dam produces a turbulent environment with cold waters, trout tend to reside in this location. This a great place to target a dense population of trout.

The Lake
Lake Wallenpaupack has an area of 9 square miles. It 13 miles long and 1 mile wide. This reservoir has an average depth of 30 feet and a maximum depth of 60 feet. It is surrounded by 52 miles of shoreline.
