Fishing

Ray Roberts Lake offers fishermen the opportunity to target some of the most popular warm freshwater species.  The primary game targets of Ray Roberts Lake include largemouth bass, white bass, channel catfish, crappie, and bluegill. 

Largemouth bass are quite abundant in Ray Roberts, so the opportunities for targeting them are plentiful between early-spring and mid-fall.Largemouth bass are often found near weed beds and other obstruction during feeding times and in deeper waters during the warmest times of the day.  The Isle du Bois arm, Buck Creek, Sanger Park, and Pecan Creek are all excellent places for targeting largemouth bass. 

White bass are plentiful across the entirety of Ray Roberts Lake, but the mouths of feeder creeks are especially good locations to target.  Also try trolling small spoons across the face of the dam and always keep an eye out for feeding birds as the fish will be near by. 

Channel catfish can be targeted at bottom of Ray Roberts Lake’s deep regions.  Good spots to target catfish include the areas of water near the Ray Roberts Dam and the various holes that can be found by using a depth finder. 

Crappie are plentiful in Ray Roberts Lake and can be targeted in the many weed beds that cover the shallow regions near the shore and in creeks.  Prime spots for crappie fishing include Buck Creek, Jordan Park, Isle du Bois, and various lake points.  The use of light tackle is recommended.  Bluegill can be targeted in similar locations by using the same methods.

The facilities and accommodations of Ray Roberts Lake include a marina, public piers, fishing guides, boat rentals, lodging, fueling stations, tackle shops, paved boat landings, public access points, and nearby restaurants and grocery stores.

The Lake

Ray Roberts Lake is a large reservoir with a total surface area of 29,350 acres.  It has a maximum depth of 106 feet.  Under normal conditions, the water is relatively clear.  Over half of Ray Roberts Lake’s shoreline is covered by either floating or submerged vegetation.

Ray Roberts Lake is an ideal fishing destination for those fishermen who desire an experience that is both exciting and challenging.
