Toledo Bend Reservoir is an artificial body of water located off of the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana. This reservoir is in South Toledo Bend State Park, where it is known as a home to the one of the densest communities of large game fish in the nation. Fishermen will find that Toledo Bend provides an adventurous atmosphere for the fishermen that desire a strong challenge. For casual fishermen, there are numerous species of smaller fish that put up less of a fight. Toledo Bend is also near many facilities that will make a visit to the reservoir convenient and stress-free.

Fishing
Toledo Bend is the home of a very dense population of game fish that put up a strong fight. Most of these fish can be caught throughout the year using a variety of different fishing methods. These fish include flathead catfish, channel catfish, blue catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and white bass.
Because of the excitement that is caused by these large freshwater gamefish, there are numerous tournaments held throughout the year for bass and catfish. The catfish population in Toledo Bend is very diverse and makes for an exciting experience for those that enjoy this popular gamefish. In the Spring, catfish can be caught in the several channels and creeks. In these locations, fishermen should use a bottom rig with stink baits. These catfish can be found in the relatively same locations throughout the Summer, Spring, and Fall, but with a some differences in depth preferences.
In the spring, largemouth bass can be found in the shallow sand beds near hydrilla and other aquatic plants. During the Summer, when the water gets significantly warmer, the bass move to deeper waters. They move to coves and pockets near the shore when the water gets colder during the middle of the Fall. During all of these seasons, the bass species can be caught using light tackle, spinner, and jigs. Fishermen are also often successful by experimenting with a variety of artificial baits.
Smaller fish in Toledo Bend include bluegil, redear sunfish, break, and crappie. Crappie can be caught during the same seasons as bass in the shallow waters near aquatic plants. This diverse population of fish will provide fishermen with an experience that is anything but boring.
Facilities
As a very large lake serving both Texas and Louisiana, there are numerous facilities that will make a visit most enjoyable. At the Toledo Bend Reservoir and the surrounding areas, fishermen will be able to make use of piers, marinas, tackle shops, sporting good stores, restaurants, and grocery stores. These provide for every need that a fishermen could need, so it is definitely possible to pack light and purchase all of the necessities at Toledo Bend if that is preferred.
The Lake
The TOledo Bend Reservoir is enormous in comparison to many lakes in the United States. With an area of 185,000 acres, it is possible for each fishermen at Toledo Bend to have some privacy while enjoying a day on the water. At its maximum depth, Toledo Bend is 110 feet. Its average depth is 60 feet. This reservoir is 65 miles long with a width of 10 miles. Toledo Bend's large measurements contribute to the booming populations of large fish.
Anglers will be hard-pressed to find another lake with these opportunities for big game fishing.
