Fishing
Webster Lake has excellent opportunities for catching both large and small game fish species. This makes Webster Lake excellent for both beginners and avid anglers. The primary game fish that can be caught throughout Webster Lake include Atlantic salmon, black crappie, brook trout, bluegill, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, northern pike, rainbow trout, pumpkinseed sunfish, redbreast sunfish, smallmouth bass, muskie, white perch, bullhead, and yellow perch. Atlantic salmon is one the most frequently targeted trophy fish of Webster Lake. This is a common target among fly fishermen who desire a strong challenge. In order to capture this species, fishermen should first analyze the water levels. When the water levels or low, fishermen will need to target deep water coves and drop offs. If water levels are normal, anglers will be able to find Atlantic Salmon close to the shoreline or in shallow coves. Dry flies should be used during the Summer while wet flies should be reserved for the Spring and Fall. Once hooked, fishermen should be very patient about reeling in this species; this species can grow to large sizes that will easily break a line if a reckless strategy is used. Trout can be caught using similar methods in the turbulent waters of Webster Lake. Most species of trout prefer cold, moving waters, so it is beneficial to focus on inlets and other areas of flowing water. Muskie is the other dominant trophy fish of Webster Lake. This species can be found in deep waters throughout Webster Lake. Fishermen should rely on dark colored lures and tackle. During the Fall, the largest trophy muskie can be caught using larger lures between 10" to 14". Smaller bucktail spinners and crankbaits can be used in the Spring. Largemouth bass is the predominant bass species of Webster Lake. The various islands are excellent places to target this fish. Strip Island, Goat Island, and Cobble Island are among the most notable fishing spots due to presence of great hiding spots for largemouth bass. In these areas, jigs, spinners, and buzzbaits should be used for optimal results. When targeting the larger individuals of the largemouth bass population, a medium weight rod with a line of 10 to 15 pound test should be used. The northern pike is also a species that can be found around the islands of Webster Lake. In order to catch this species, anglers should target deep weed beds using spinners and crankbaits. Slapping the water with large spoons is also effective. This species is not the most edible of fish, but it provides an excellent challenge that is prized by sport fishermen. The various species of panfish in Webster Lake are excellent for anglers of various skill levels and experiences. These species can be caught along the shoreline using light tackle or fly rods.
