Fishing
With large and diverse populations of fish, Bull Shoals Lake is a very popular body of water for fishermen from all over the United States. This is also the location of several popular fishing tournaments that are famous across the entire nation. Bull Shoals Lake is perfect for both serious and casual fishermen due to its stocks; there is a large number of strong fighting game fish as well as easier fish that can be caught without much skill. Species of fish at Bull Shoals Lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, stripers, walleye, crappie, rainbow trout, lake trout, catfish, panfish, and numerous small fish that are common to fresh bodies of water. Among these populations of fish, the largemouth bass is by far the most popular among fishermen. This species can be caught 12 months of the year in a variety of locations. During the colder months of November to February, fishermen should use a boat to travel to deeper waters of the lake. At these locations, anglers can use light tackle, jigs, or spinners. All of these methods have been regarded as very successful, so experimentation will prove what is working on a given day. During the Spring, Summer, and Fall, largemouth bass can be found closer to the shore. Fishermen can fish from the shore or in coves using a boat. It is important to target the sandy areas near vegetation such as hydrilla, because this where bass tend to reside. Light tackle, jigs, and spinners are the most successful options for this situation. Rainbow trout is also a popular game fish that anglers target at Bull Shoals Lake. This species can be caught when the water temperature is cold during the early Spring and late Fall. They are often found in the areas where fresh water enters the lake. Fishermen who target this species should use fly rods or light tackle. Channel catfish are also a favorite of both casual and serious fishermen. These fish can be caught in the deep channels of Bull Shoals Lake during the entire year. Fishermen should use bottom rigs with stink bait line with a heavy test. Numerous other large game and small fish can be found throughout Bull Shoals Lake.
