Located in the scenic state of North Carolina, High Rock Lake offers extensive opportunities for high quality fishing trips. High Rock Lake is located in the center of North Carolina near the city of Lexington. This body of water is a reservoir formed by an impoundment off of the Yadkin River. Water flows in from the Yadkin River and exits through the Yadkin River and Tuckertown Reservoir. High Rock Lake becomes a favorite fishing location of many anglers who visit.

With dozens of game fish in High Rock Lake, anglers have the opportunity to target a variety of fish using numerous styles and methods. Some of the major game fish of High Rock Lake include bluegill, black crappie, white crappie, blue catfish, channel catfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, and white bass. The panfish of High Rock Lake are popular targets among fishermen of any age and experiences. Bluegill and crappie can be found in high abundance throughout the entire lake. Fishermen should target these species from the piers, shoreline, or small boats. These panfish tend to stay in shallow waters near weed beds, timber, or other debris. Once an ideal fishing location has been selected, anglers should cast a line of 5 to 10 pound test. Ideal tackle options include spinners, jigs, and bobbers. Nightcrawlers, crickets, red worms, and artificial worms are excellent bait choices. These panfish can put up a feisty fight as well as make for a delicious meal after a fun day on the water. Largemouth bass is one of the most popular species of High Rock Lake. This species puts up a strong fight and can grow to massive sizes. In order to catch this prized game fish, anglers should target areas such as weed beds and drop offs during the morning and evening. During the day, fishermen should use a boat to target deep waters beyond the drop off. The Ridge Mouth of Abbotts Creek and the area where the Yadkin feeds into the reservoir are both excellent places to target largemouth bass. Largemouth bass have been known to grow up to 15 pounds or more, so a line of a 15 to 20 pound test should be equipped to a medium weight rod. Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and shad imitations are all excellent tackle options for the angler in search of largemouth bass. For the fishermen in search of a strong challenge, the striped bass of High Rock Lake are renowned for their ability to put up a difficult fight. In order to catch this species, anglers should troll the deep waters of High Rock Lake using a boat and trolling motor. Trolling at a speed of 2 to 5 miles per hour is ideal. Large spoons, spinners, blue fish rigs, and various other medium weight tackle options should be used. The use of bottom rigs is a great alternative to trolling. High Rock Lake also offers a variety of catfish that can be caught in deep waters using bottom rigs and baits that emit a strong odor.
