Due to a healthy population of the species common to the United States’ warm freshwater locations, the quality of fishing at Lake Greenwood is excellent.  The primary game targets of this lake include largemouth bass, black crappie, striped bass, and various species of catfish. 

The largemouth bass is a popular species throughout many United States bodies of water and Lake Greenwood is no exception.  In Lake Greenwood, largemouth bass can be targeted during the day in the open waters.  The prime time for largemouth bass fishing is during the morning and evening feeding times when they can be found near drop offs and shallow weed beds.  Largemouth bass fishing locations specific to Lake Greenwood include Cane Creek and Seaboard Trestle. 

The crappie population of Lake Greenwood is plentiful and offers some excitement to both recreational and avid fishermen.  This species can be targeted near weed beds and other obstructions through the use of light tackle.  Good locations for crappie fishing include Cane Creek, Quarters Creek, and the coves and sprawls on the lake’s western banks.

Striped bass can be targeted in the open waters near ledges and by the dam by trolling. 

Channel and several other species of catfish can be targeted in deep fishing holes and coves by using bottom rigs.  Quarters Creek and the deep areas across the open water and near the dam are ideal for targeting catfish. 

Facilities

Lake Greenwood offers several public access points, tackle shops, fishing guides, lodging, and fueling stations.  Grocery stores and restaurants can be found in nearby areas.

The Lake

Lake Greenwood is quite large with a total surface area of 11,400 acres.  At its deepest point, Lake Greenwood is 69 feet.  It has an average depth of 22 feet.  The shoreline of Lake Greenwood measures out to approximately 212 miles.  It is located at an elevation of 439 feet.  This body of water has a variety of aquatic vegetation and a mud bottom.

Lake Greenwood is the perfect body of water for the angler in search of opportunities for targeting the United States’ favorite warm freshwater targets.
