Fishing
As a very large lake, fishermen will find that Guntersville is a location that is filled with many different species of fish. It is common to catch largemouth bass, striped bass, spotted bass, black crappie, and channel catfish. Most of these fish can be captured throughout the year in a variety of location, but the local favorites of catfish and bass are often caught in certain locations. For the many species of bass, fishermen are far more successful when using light tackle and jigs in the weed beds of shallow areas of the lake. This method is fun and exciting, as the bass put up quite a fight. These bass are often caught in the Spring, Summer, and early Fall, but they can be found in deeper waters during the late Fall and Winter. Catfish are often caught in the deepest sections of the lake using bottom rigs. Their primary seasons are late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. Anglers will find that other species of fish can be caught year-round using a variety of light-tackle and bottom-rig set ups. Due to these vast opportunities for fishing, many regional and national tournaments are held at Lake Guntersville. These attract many serious fishermen, so it is a great experience for fishermen of all skill levels.
