Fishing
With abundant fish populations and healthy habitats, Rodman Reservoir will easily become a favorite of many anglers who visit. Best known for its frequent trophy-size largemouth bass, the fish in Rodman are able to grow to large sizes due to the healthy environments. Many records have been set by fishermen who visit Rodman Reservoir. Fish species in Rodman include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bream, perch, bluegil, channel catfish, sunfish, and numerous species of small game. Because of the largemouth bass's large reputation at Rodman Reservoir, they have become a favorite target of anglers who come to enjoy a day on the water. In the morning, these fish can be found in the shallow waters near aquatic plants such as hydrilla. Fishermen should look for sandy beds, as the bass will often feed in these areas. Later in the day, it becomes necessary for fishermen to use a boat to travel into deeper waters in order to catch largemouth bass. The ideal rod set-up for largemouth bass is light tackle, spinners, or jigs. A line with a medium test of 10 to 15 pounds is also recommended. Bass can be caught between early-Spring and early-Winter due to the warm weather patterns of Florida. Colder years tend to cause the bass fishing season to become shorter. The channel catfish is the other large game found at Rodman Reservoir. This species is often found in the deeper waters of Rodman; fishermen should use a boat to find a depth between 10 to 30 feet. This is an ideal place to use a bottom rig with a stink bait. This set-up is usually the best way to catch the largest catfish, as the channel catfish is a bottom feeder. As with the bass, catfish can be caught for most of the year due to the climate of Florida. Smaller species of fish can be caught anywhere in the lake using light tackle, bottom rigs, spinners, or jigs. The diversity of fish in this reservoir ensures that every fishing trip never becomes boring.
