Fishing

Table Rock Lake is one of the premier fishing locations in Missouri.  This body of water is quite healthy and offers a large community both noteworthy trophy fish and small panfish.  The primary game species of Table Rock Lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, flathead catfish, white bass, green sunfish, spotted bass, and longear sunfish.  The largemouth bass is a favorite target among both the locals and visitors of Table Rock Lake.  This species can be captured in a variety of locations, but the areas near Bear Hole Island and Big Spring Hollow are both places to target.  Once in these locations, fishermen should be sure to cast lines near dropoffs, gaps in weed beds, and near submerged timber and other obstructions.  Ideal tackle for largemouth bass includes many varieties of buzz baits, crankbaits, and jigs.  A medium weight rod with a line of a 12-pound test is sufficient.  Smallmouth bass can also be captured in this area; however, Wood Deck Island and the lake’s numerous weedy sprawls are also prime fishing locations.  Smallmouth bass can be caught with topwater lures, jigs, or live bait.  Shallow waters near pilings, weed beds, and timber should be targeted.  The walleye of Table Rock Lake can be found in deep areas throughout the entire body of water.  Trolling at speeds of 3 to 4 miles per hour using crankbaits and small spoons is can result in catching a very large walleye.  For more casual fishermen, numerous smaller walleye can be found near the shore during the Spring spawning season. Crankbaits and jigs are effective tackle options.  The catfish can be found near the bottom of the lake in deep holes.  There are numerous of these ideal locations near the Table Rock Dam, so those targeting catfish should begin their search there.  Catfish hooks, stink baits, and a medium-weight rod equipped with a bottom rig and a line of 15 to 20 pound test is the proper setup.  Crappie and the numerous panfish of the lake can be caught from the fishing piers, shoreline, and in the various weed beds accessible by boat.  Topwater lures, jigs, or fly rods are all good choices.  Ideal live-baits include the usual nightcrawlers, minnows, crickets, and artificial worms.

The surface area of Table Rock Lake is 43,100 acres.  At its deepest point, Table Rock Lake is 220 feet.  The shore measures out to 857 miles around the flood pool and 745 miles in the normal pool.
