Fishing

The primary gamefish in Bass Lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, white bass and channel catfish.

Largemouth bass are a popular target in this body of water.  In order to target this species, anglers should cast near drop offs and the gaps between shallow weed beds.  The northern and western shorelines are both exceptional locations for largemouth bass fishing. Productive areas include Cedar Point and Gulf Point.

Bluegill and crappie can be targeted in the sheltered locations of Bass Lake that are characterized by debris such as submerged timber and vegetation.  There many locations throughout Bass Lake that are ideal for targeting these smaller fish species, but the shallow waters in the northern end of the lake are excellent places to fish for bluegill, crappie, and panfish.  Light tackle and a variety of bait should be used when targeting these fish species.  The flats covering most of the southern portion and Cranberry Point are great areas to target. Crappie and Bluegill spawn in the very north portions of the lake in April & May.Bluegill Indiana

Walleye can be found throughout Bass Lake.  Prime months at target walleye are April - June and anytime in the fall.  The walleye at Bass Lake cruise the flats adjacent to deeper water.  Look for walleye to the north of Cedar Point and the rocky area off Gulf Point. When the north winds blow try the humps adjacent to Cranberry Point.

Channel catfish can be targeted in the deepest areas of Bass Lake through the use of a boat.  Alternatively, anglers can cast into deep channels from a pier.  Bottom rigs should be used when targeting catfish.  Locate the deepest regions of the lake using your electronics.  Areas with drop-offs or near weed edges are prime and can be found along the Northeast portion of the lake.
