Fishing

The primary game species of Lake Catherine include musky, northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill, and other panfish.

The musky and pike of Lake Catherine can be found roaming the open waters of the lake throughout the majority of the open water season and near the weed edges when feeding.  Productive areas to target include the entrance to Trevor Creek and the edges leading to Channel Lake.  Trolling is an option on this rather open body of water.Illinois Musky

Walleye can also be targeted in deep waters.  Fishermen in search of this popular game fish should target the deep areas of Lake Catherine between early spring and late fall.  During mid-spring, many small walleye can be targeted near spawn sites and shallow locations.  Crankbaits are the preferred tackle of choice whenever fishing for walleye.  Look for walleye holding off drop-offs on the mid-eastern area of the lake.

Channel catfish can be targeted throughout most of Lake Catherine in deep waters ranging between 8 and 40 feet.  These locations can be reached by using a boat and depth finder or by simply fishing from a pier.  Smelly baits and bottom rigs should be used whenever targeting this bottom dwelling species.

Panfish, bluegill, and crappie can be targeted along the shorelines, near lake points, and in sheltered areas characterized by submerged timber and other debris.  The western shoreline is a suitable location for targeting these smaller species.  Fishermen in search of these panfish should use light tackle or fly gear.

Facilities

The facilities and accommodations of Lake Catherine include paved boat landings, fishing piers, boat docks, public access points, recreation areas, and nearby stores and lodging.
