Fishing

Lake Seminole is commonly frequented by fishermen from Florida, Georgia, and the other southern states because of its healthy abundance of game fish.  The most notable of these species include largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, white bass, chain pickerel, channel catfish, and striped bass. 

While Seminole’s largemouth bass can be caught throughout the entire year, August through early December is the ideal time to target them.  At Lake Seminole, fishermen should begin fishing for largemouth bass in areas with hydrilla or eel grass.  The many miles of sandbar serve as an excellent habitat for dense populations of largemouth bass.  In recent years, the sandbars on the side of the lake closest to the Flint River has been a great place for largemouth bass fishing.  Seminole largemouth bass are commonly captured at between 5 to 10 pounds.  Anglers should target drop-offs and gaps in the weed beds with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. 

The catfish of Lake Seminole can be caught in the deeper areas of the lake using bottom rigs with any variety of live or cut bait.  There are some deep regions of water near the Woodruff Dam, so those are often targeted by anglers in search of catfish.  This species can reach relatively large sizes, so a medium weight rod equipped with at least a 15 pound test is recommended.  

The chain pickerel of Lake Seminole can be targeted in areas with thick vegetation, so the areas along the shore near the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers are great places for fishermen to search.  Fishermen in search of smaller game can target these areas along with the lake’s various piers.  From these locations, anglers can target crappie using jigs and light tackle.

The Lake

Lake Seminole has a total surface area of 37,500 acres.  It has an average depth of 10 feet and a maximum depth of 30 feet.  It is 35 miles at its longest and two miles at its widest.  The shore of Lake Seminole measures out to approximately 376 miles.

Lake Seminole offers some incredible fishing opportunities for anglers of all levels.  This lake is definitely a location that should be visited at least once by all serious fishermen.
